Transfer Flashback: Manchester United re-sign Paul Pogba

Paul Pogba is a tricky one, isn’t he?

His United career has been nothing short of controversial. After leaving for just £1,5m five years prior, the midfielder was brought back in 2016 in a world-record £89m deal. Pogba has subsequently received immense criticism, particularly in his first two seasons.

The current campaign has represented his best season back in Manchester, however, scoring an impressive 13 league goals – more than his previous two seasons combined.

Upon arriving back at United, fans couldn’t have been more excited. The midfielder had emerged as one of the world’s best during his time at Juventus. It showed in the reaction to the news of his incoming. It was a transfer that sent shockwaves around the world. United believing they had captured a gem, with many rival fans believing £89m was overpriced.

The fans made their feelings pretty clear – this was the signing that would bring glory back to United

Despite the drop of in form since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s announcement as the permanent United manager, United will be hopeful for next season. Pogba has proved himself as one of the best midfielders in the league this season, despite a difficult start to his return to Manchester.

Should United continue to build the team around him for years to come, they will certainly have a frightening squad.

United fans, was Pogba worth the £89m transfer fee? Have his performances this season justified the astronomical transfer fee?
