Many punters here in the Transfer Tavern were surprised when they realised that Tottenham Hotspurs hard fought 1-1 draw against Arsenal on Sunday meant that Spurs had stretched their unbeaten league run to eleven games.
Indeed, since their opening day defeat to Manchester United (a game they were unlucky to lose), Spurs have quietly gone about their buisness and have almost become dark horses this season.
However, more recent high profile wins for Spurs such as the 4-1 victory over Manchester City and 5-1 thumping of Bournemouth has resulted in many starting to take a lot more notice of Maurico Pochettino’s impressive looking side.
One catalyst for the electric form is Harry Kane, who after a slow start has hit six goals in his last three outings to take his league tally to seven. Kane was unstoppable last season, and it looks like he is going to continue to be one of the League’s most fearsome strikers.
Kane’s performances did spark another discussion in the Tavern, however. The debate was whether Kane could form a fearsome partnership with someone else, though he is used to playing up top by himself, the punters in the Tavern were wondering whether Kane could be even more unstoppable if he linked up with another top striker.

Ayoze Perez
Though Newcastle have been relatively poor so far this season, Ayoze Perez has put in some decent performances and most recently fired the Toon Army to victory in a 1-0 win over AFC Bournemouth.
Perez has recently been linked with not only Manchester United, but also Tottenham Hotspur themselves.
So far, Perez and Mitrovic have seemed to link up relatively well together, with the young Spaniard playing well in behind the Serb.
With Kane’s ability to hold the ball up, and Perez’s ability to find cute little pockets of space, there is potential for a fruitful partnership here.
Charlie Austin
Arguably, one might think that the QPR striker is similar to Kane in that they are both similar to the old fashioned number nine. Despite this, both could still work well with one another.
They are both decent finishers, both very strong in the air and indeed have a physical prowess that could give defenders nightmares.
As long as they ensured they weren’t getting in eachother’s way, there would be no harm in playing the two together. Kane has also been tested in a number ten role before, and didn’t do to badly there at all.
Odion Ighalo
Like Kane, Ighalo has been one of the league’s most inform strikers this season for Watford, having also scored 7 goals. What Ighalo has benefitted from in particular, is the unselfishness of his strike partner Troy Deeney.
Kane arguably has a very similar build to Deeney, and his excellent hold up play means that he would be a useful foil for Ighalo.
More recently, Deeney has been getting among the goals at Watford, which suggests that the two are certainly beginning to make sure they are on the scoresheet.
Jay Rodriguez
Of course, though Pochettino has been unable to raid his old club Southampton with too much joy, a move for Jay Rodriguez could still be on the cards. Had Rodriguez not injured his knee, a move to North London would have been more than likely.
Rodriguez still has plenty to offer, and not only could be link up with Kane as a striker partner, but he is also more than capable of playing in a wide forward position.
Rodriguez indeed linked up very well with Ricky Lambert in the year that both were so prolific, and there is no reason why he couldn’t form a similar partnership with Kane.
Jamie Vardy
With Jamie Vardy in imperious form for Leicester so far, it is likely that many will be chasing the striker for his services. Vardy has proved a useful strike partner in the past with not only Leonardo Ulloa but also more recently Shinji Okazaki.
With Kane’s hold up play and Vardy’s frightening pace, this partnership could be a devestating one. We may have a chance to see this brought to life in the upcoming European qualifiers, with both having been picked for the England squad.
