Plenty of pressure is placed on professional football clubs to make significant investments in the transfer market, but sometimes consolidating what you already have can prove more productive than gambling on new players.
Well, that’s exactly what Celtic did earlier this year as they extended Tom Rogic’s contract until 2023.
Rogic initially struggled to adapt to life in Scotland after completing a switch in 2013, but he has now established himself as one of the most adored players on the terraces at Celtic Park.
The Australian wizard’s contract had been due to expire in 2019 before he put pen to paper on a new deal and, after enjoying such an eye catching career at Celtic, it was no surprise that the supporters turned out in their numbers to gush over the new deal.
Here’s what the supporters had to say when the club confirmed Rogic’s new deal:

Operating between the lines of midfield and attack, Rogic has consistently proven to be a menace both domestically and in Europe, with his twinkle-toed dribbling ability, incisive vision and ability to strike the ball from long-range giving the Hoops a genuine edge in the final-third.
With the transfer window rapidly approaching and fear of a potential departure beginning to bother Celtic supporters, the news arrived as welcome relief.
Celtic now have enough security over his long-term future to ensure that Rogic will not be leaving the club for anything less than a premium price, but there is no doubt that his departure would be gut-wrenching to say the least if a club is willing to meet an extortionate asking price.
Rogic’s decision to stay at the club may well prove decisive as Celtic bid to clinch the 10 straight SPFL titles the fans are so desperately craving.
