The Chelsea fans here in the Transfer Tavern are resigning themselves to the fact that they could be losing their number one goalkeeper in the summer.

Thibaut Courtois hasn’t seemed the same goalkeeper in recent months, alongside the rest of the Chelsea team who have all lost their way since the start of the year. Our regulars are talking about the latest reports breaking over comments made by Chelsea’s number one, in an interview he’s claimed that his heart is still in Madrid, due to his family still being there.

Well, for the Blues in our bar, they’re happy to send him straight back there!

All of this has further fuelled speculation over a summer move to Real Madrid as they seek a new shot-stopper, as it seems their pursuit of long-term target David De Gea is ending due to a possible new contract with Man United.

If that happens, Antonio Conte will be on the lookout for a new goalkeeper to take into next season, and our landlord takes a look at two possible replacements…

Alisson

The Brazilian No.1 is currently playing in Serie A with Roma, where he constantly impresses on a weekly basis. Alisson is an excellent shot-stopper and is impressive at close range, and with being Brazil’s first choice goalkeeper, he has plenty of international experience.

Our punters in the bar believe that Alisson would be a great capture for Chelsea and, only being 25, he can certainly become a permanent fixture at Stamford Bridge for many years to come.

Koen Casteels

The Wolfsburg goalkeeper is having a fantastic season between the sticks in the Bundesliga and looks to be ready to make the step up to a bigger club. Interestingly, he is a bit of an all-round goalkeeper and is an assured presence at the back, again similar to Alisson, he is 25 and can become a regular for years to come in the Premier League.

However, he plays understudy to Courtois in the Belgium team and is yet to start a game for his national side although he has represented them at most age levels prior to the national team.
