The Gers are on the brink of closing a £1.5 million deal to capture midfielder Graham Dorrans but the Scottish outfit should be chasing other names to improve the squad ahead of the 2017/18 campaign.

Originally from Glasgow, Dorrans has spent much of his footballing career in England with West Bromwich Albion for seven years prior to signing for Championship side Norwich City in 2015.

Our Rangers-mad barman is enthusiastic whenever an established top-flight footballer decides to move north of the border, and that is exactly what the twelve-time Scotland international could be doing in the next week or so.

However, this could just be an easy move for the Glasgow-based team who are pursuing a player who wants to return to Scotland, whereas they could be showing more ambition.

Rangers should sign ONE of the following TWO players instead of Graham Dorrans this summer transfer window….

Youssouf Mulumbu

Formerly a team-mate of Graham Dorrans, Youssouf Mulumbu was a Norwich City player until his contract expired at the end of last month and has yet to find a suitable party to take his services.

The defensive midfielder has also racked up pivotal Premier League experience during his six years at the Hawthorns, making no less than 164 appearances during his time in England’s top division.

The distinct prospect at signing Mulumbu has Rangers fans in the Tavern cheering and this could really be a positive addition for the number of games he’s amassed throughout his playing days.

Jackson Irvine

Jackson Irvine has become one of the most consistent midfielders in England’s second-tier with Burton Albion, their first campaign in the division has proven just what the Australian international can showcase.

He is no strange to the Scottish leagues either having spent much of his early career at Ross County and Kilmarnock, as well as a brief spell at rivals Celtic, featuring in 105 matches in Scotland.

Just at the age of 24, Irvine really is an exciting defensive midfielder and the Football Transfer Tavern Rangers section would be highly pleased to see him become an acquisition instead of Graham Dorrans.
