West Ham United are desperately scrapping for a prolific forward this summer following a twelve month period of being linked to every forward who has netted themselves twenty goals.

Admittedly, the Hammers do need a new man up top to rely on for their European push and that is possibly why German news outlet Blid (via the Express) are linking the Premier League club to swoop for ex-Manchester United man Javier Hernandez.

The 29-year-old netted eleven league goals last term and fans by the bar have now tipped the Mexican as their priority transfer target, demanding the West Ham United owners pursue him as a potential addition.

There is no doubt that Hernandez would re-install faith into the side’s front line, however, there are plenty of strikers who could be just as beneficial to Slaven Bilic’s ambitions for a margin of the price.

So with that in mind, West Ham should forget Javier Hernandez and sign one of the following two……

Chris Wood

Chris Wood is the most prolific striker in the Championship, there is doubt about that, and could arrive at the London Stadium for a fair price if Bilic opted to move for the New Zealand attacker.

Watching the Leeds United forward was one of the luxuries in the Football Transfer Tavern last season and many supporters from all sorts of clubs would happily acquire Wood in their squads.

However, West Ham United need goals and his 27 in the 2016/17 campaign could be replicated in the top-flight; so it is definitely worth the gamble as he is only going to be probably half the price of the potential addition of Javier Hernandez.

Moussa Dembele

The beautiful game doesn’t have a more promising figure up top than Celtic’s prospective talent of Moussa Dembele having netted himself 32 goals in all competitions last year, not many in the continent can better that record.

A similar alternative to Hernandez, the Frenchman’s pace and inch-perfect finishing is exactly what West Ham United are absence of so it’s heavily likely he’d help the Hammers glide up the table.

His international experience with the France under-21 team could also be to Slaven Bilic’s benefit, learning to play on the shoulder and bring West Ham’s midfield into the match.
