Forget Lemar: 2 players Liverpool should splash their £146m Coutinho money on ASAP

Share

Our Liverpool fans here in the Transfer Tavern are eagerly waiting to see how Klopp is going to spend the money from the Philippe Coutinho deal. Unlike the Luis Suarez money, they beg those behind the scenes spend their new funds wisely.

After finally letting the Brazilian go to Barcelona, Liverpool now have £146m burning a big hole in their pocket during this crucial January window. Of course, like our regulars have said every man and his dog will be linked with a move to Anfield these next few weeks, but the Lemar link doesn’t seem to be going away.

With the signing of Virgil Van Dijk done early on in the transfer window, Klopp must get the next few weeks right if he’s to finish the second half of the season strong and really cement their place in the top-four.

Recruitment in key areas of the squad is key and our barman thinks instead of splashing all the funds on just one player, a couple of players being brought into the squad will really freshen things up.

Our landlord takes a look at two other options that Klopp could explore this January…

Jack Butland

Liverpool are in desperate need of a quality first team goalkeeper and, in Butland, they could have a player with Premier League experience, as well being an England international. With Klopp’s indecisive switching between Mignolet and Karius this season, the defence would feel and look much more stable with a regular number one behind them.

Butland could be a snip of a player too, even in today’s inflated transfer market. Big money now would give them a shot-stopper for 10-years.

Theo Walcott

With the departed Coutinho now finally gone, there is a hole for a pacey player who can score goals. With that in mind, step up, Theo Walcott.

Out of favour at Arsenal, the attacking winger can still find the back of the net on a regular basis and provide many assists. You get the feeling the England international needs a change of scenery and Anfield could be an ideal place in which to restart his career.

This might be a little left-field option but one if used right could certainly pay off for Klopp as he loves pacey forwards.
