Tottenham fans here in the Tavern are hoping their side can secure an all-important top-four spot, after witnessing the heroics in this season’s European competition.
Spurs have enjoyed one of their most successful Premier League seasons in years gone by, as they look on course for achieving a top-four spot and have an outside chance of bringing Champions League glory back to North London. Indeed, after already beating the likes of Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund in the European competition thus far, the Lilywhites may not be too far away from causing another huge upset against Italian giants Juventus.
However, with other teams likely to strengthen in the summer transfer window in their search for glory next season, Spurs will be looking to bring in some additions of their own. And, it appears as if Dortmund’s injury-plagued star Marco Reus is catching their eye, as they’re ready to bid for the German in the summer months.
Sadly, the 28-year-old has suffered from many injuries over the past couple of seasons, that’s caused for him to miss out on some valuable minutes with his current club. Indeed, this means that Spurs could end up paying a substantial amount of money for a player that could quite easily spend most of his Tottenham career on the sidelines.
Therefore, here’s a look at TWO players that Spurs should look to target instead…
James Maddison
The 21-year-old is arguably one of the most exciting prospects in English football, having managed to produce 10 goals and nine assists in an attacking midfield role for Championship side Norwich City this season.
Indeed, James Maddison showed that he’s already at a Premier League level after impressing against defending champions Chelsea, in what turned out to be a two-legged cup tie against pretty much the Blues’ first-team.
Therefore, having seen the rise of Dele Alli since making the move from League One side Milton Keynes Dons, bringing another Football League product to the Premier League could see them reap the same rewards. And, there’s already been an interest submitted by Tottenham in the Championship star, as they’re set to battle Liverpool for his services.
Gareth Bale
The former Tottenham cult-hero was one of the most respectable figures at the club during his six years at White Hart Lane, as many of our local residents are desperate to see their beloved Welshman back in North London.
Indeed, the 28-year-old has established himself as one of the best attackers in the whole of world football, with over 125 career goals to his name. And, the goals don’t look like drying up anytime soon, having produced 10 so far this season to go with seven assists for his Los Blancos teammates.
Of course, it’s clear that Spurs’ biggest ambition has been to bring the attacker back to North London ever since his departure, and they may finally have the opportunity to do so, with the London club continuing to be linked with a return for their former star.
