Our Chelsea fans here in the Transfer Tavern will be hoping for a lot more cover for the first team coming in this January.
The Blues have had many players this window targetted already, with Antonio Conte looking to bring a little strength in depth to his squad. One of the key positions for the Italian to target is the wing back position, with even the ever-present Marcus Alonso is in much need of a rest.
Chelsea have been linked with the Roma wingback Emerson Palmieri over the past few week, but our regulars have been discussing other possible options for the Stamford Bridge outfit to explore.
If Conte wants to bring more silverware into the club again in his second season, the bar staff think he needs to expand his squad this January. Indeed, the board will want to avoid the type of disappointing window they had in the summer.
However, our landlord thinks he has two more wingbacks that Chelsea should consider…
Faouzi Ghoulam

The Algerian left-back is currently flying high in Serie A with Napoli and after recently signing a new long-term with a reported £30m release clause, he won’t come cheap. However, he comes with goals and assists which could be a great alternative to the already outstanding Alonso, who chips in with his fair share of goals.
The punters in the bar believe that Ghoulam may welcome a move to away even though he’s just extended his stay, after featuring in only 11 games so far in Serie A due to an injury.

If Chelsea are looking to sign a young understudy to the impressive Alonso, then 21-year-old Jorge could be the ideal candidate. The attacking fullback likes to grab a goal and is key in playing a part in the attack.
Having only recently signed for Monaco a year ago, the Brazilian may be reluctant to leave but has many of the punters have seen in the summer, ‘Les Monégasques’ have previously proven open to letting their talent leave in order to keep the funds going.
