Bleacher Report have recently suggested that Wigan Athletic’s Nick Powell could be on the move away from the club, with Celtic and RB Leipzig both interested in the player.
The ex-Manchester United man failed to prove himself on the biggest stage when given his first opportunity, but since then has found his calling playing for Wigan where he played a huge part in securing their promotion from League One last season.
Indeed, you’d think given Powell’s pedigree he’d perk the interest of all Celtic fans. But this certainly isn’t the case, and there are some calling for Brendan Rogers to, instead, dip into Scotland’s pool of talented young players to unearth a gem.
With that in mind, here are two players who would be excellent acquisitions at this stage in their career…
Lewis Ferguson
Lewis Ferguson currently bosses Aberdeen’s midfield but has been touted to move on and achieve greater things.
Hamilton Academical manager Martin Canning has likened the player to Premier League star James McCarthy, claiming: “He [Ferguson] reminded me of James McCarthy. They’re like 27, 28-year-old men in 18-year-old bodies” (as per BBC Sport).
Indeed, despite only being 19-years-of-age, the level of maturity he operates under is only one of his many qualities. His footballing brain is noticeably more advanced than most other players in the league, and his physique compliments his mentality with strong, no nonsense performances.
Scott McTominay
It’s well worth taking a punt on Manchester United’s Scott McTominay since his first-team minutes have been reduced drastically.
Even if it’s on a loan basis, the experience the player would bring, which he attained at such an early age, would be invaluable.
He’d fit quite comfortably in the midfield role at Celtic, where Scott Brown and Olivier Ntcham currently occupy the starting spots, enforcing the centre of the pack in the more competitive games.
