David Bentley, to put it mildly, has not had a great time since his move to Spurs. He joined from Blackburn for £15 million, and looked set to be a solid member of the Spurs, and possibly England team.
But since then, poor form and injuries have led to him being viewed as one of the worst Spurs signings in recent years. He has spent time on loan to Birmingham and West Ham, but has never really returned to form and has found few teams willing to pay to take him off Tottenham’s hands.
But now this injury prone, former star has found a League that specialises in just such players, MLS. His agent Rob Segal has told the Sun;
“This is something that is interesting for David, as it will also get him fit”,
“He would like to go there on loan as soon as possible.”
Due to the overly complex, and surprisingly communistic structure of MLS it is unclear which team he will be signing for, however Canada’s Vancouver Whitecaps (former home to Peter Beardsley) are rumoured by Fox sports to be leading the chase.
Spurs fans will be unlikely to miss him, but at just 27, Bentley still seems to hope he has a future in England. Clubs may be advised to keep watch, we might not have seen the back of Bentley quite yet.
