Celtic announced the loan signing of Diego Laxalt from Serie A giants AC Milan on transfer deadline day and Hoops manager Neil Lennon was very happy with the club’s transfer window.
It seems like he is not the only one happy by the side’s business, as former Celtic and Scotland star Frank McAvennie has recently been raving over Laxalt.
What did McAvennie have to say about Celtic’s new signing Laxalt?
Speaking to Football Insider, McAvennie said: “What a CV he has, I think he will prove to be a great signing for Celtic.
“He’s played for AC and Inter Milan and when you play for clubs like those you are a decent player, that is for sure. It shows that he has got a big set of kahooners as well, to play for both of those clubs.
“Scottish football will not bother this boy. He is an international for Uruguay so I think he will go straight into the team.”
Discussing McAvennie’s comments on Celtic’s new signing Laxalt
There is no doubting the quality of Laxalt, who has featured 24 times for Uruguay, per Transfermarkt, and he arrives at Parkhead with plenty of top-level experience – he has been involved in the World Cup and Copa America for Uruguay.
His time at AC Milan hasn’t been the easiest, although he still impressed in the Serie A as he was recently loaned out to Torino, where he featured 16 times in the division, supplying one assist as well as averaging 1.2 tackles and 1.1 clearances per game, via WhoScored.

Lennon is in no doubt as to the quality of Laxalt as he recently said: “I admire him very much. I watched him in the World Cup and thought he had an outstanding competition. He was playing in a very good Uruguayan team with some outstanding players and he looked very comfortable in that company.”
He has played 205 times in his club career, with 175 of those in Italian football and the majority coming in Serie A, so the Uruguayan has plenty of experience at a high level. Therefore, it’s hard to disagree with McAvennie when he says that Scottish football should not trouble Laxalt, whose arrival could give the Hoops a real lift in both the Europa League and Scottish Premiership.
