Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern are venting their frustrations at the lack of new signings ahead of the World Cup in Russia.
Kick off at the famous tournament is just around the corner and our punters know that transfer fees are likely to increase if a player performs well. Spurs ended the season in third, but reinforcements are necessary if the Lilywhites are to challenge Manchester City for the title. The regulars in the Tavern are concerned at the lack of transfer activity.
One side not enjoying the transfer window is Sporting Lisbon. Unhappy with the club’s performances, a group of ultras stormed the training ground causing injuries to players and staffs. As a result, a number of key players have terminated their contract at the club, allowing them to leave for free.
Tottenham should take advantage and try to sign Portuguese midfielder – Bruno Fernandes. The 23-year-old arrived from Sampdoria last summer and hit the ground running in his homeland. He ended a superb season with 16 goals and 20 assists in all competitions and is set for a starring role at the World Cup.
He is valued at £27m by Transfermarkt, but Spurs would be able to sign him for absolutely nothing. A natural centre midfielder, Fernandes can also play in the number 10 role, adding valuable cover to Mauricio Pochettino’s squad. He is still young and has his best years ahead of him.
Under Pochettino’s guidance, he could prove to be the bargain of the summer.
Tottenham fans, thoughts?
