Liverpool supporters in the Transfer Tavern are eagerly anticipating their team’s return to Premier League action at the weekend, what with the Reds beating Huddersfield Town, Maribor, and West Ham in the space of just seven days before the international break.

Jurgen Klopp’s men eased past David Wagner’s Terriers 3-0 at Anfield before comfortably dispatching Champions League whipping-boys Maribor by the same scoreline a few days later, thus giving them plenty of confidence ahead of their trip to West Ham. And the Merseyside giants made it three victories on the spin as a brace from Mohamed Salah as well as goals from Joel Matip and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain secured a comprehensive 4-1 win for Klopp’s side at the London Stadium, a result which moved them up to fifth in the Premier League at the expense of Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal.

Subsequently, there have been many delighted Liverpudlians in the Tavern over the two-week break for internationals, although many cannot wait to see their side in action again when they face Southampton on Saturday, when Klopp’s men will go in search of a fourth successive win.

In the meantime though, there has been much for our resident Reds supporters to discuss, not least a recent report from The Daily Mirror which suggests that Arsenal have pulled out of the race for Liverpool target Thomas Lemar, thus handing the Merseysiders a potential boost in their quest to land the 22-year-old.

The France international was excellent for Monaco in their Ligue 1 title-winning campaign last term as well as their run to the semi-finals of the Champions League, yet there was much change at the Stade Louis II over the summer, and plenty more is expected to follow.

And Lemar is one man who has been repeatedly linked with a move away, with Liverpool and Barcelona reportedly interested, and were the Reds able to get a deal done for the £27 million-rated ace (as per Transfermarkt), here is what their frighteningly impressive front line could look like…

Sadio Mane

Philippe Coutinho has often been Liverpool’s go-to man in recent years, but last season it was almost certainly Sadio Mane.

The Senegal international moved to Anfield back in 2016 and hit the ground running with an impressive 13 goals and eight assists in just 29 appearances for the club last term, thus helping them to fourth place in the Premier League table.

Yet it was during the African Cup of Nations when Mane’s absence was really felt and thus his growing influence became even more apparent, as Liverpool won just one of seven games in all competitions while he was on international duty, and then returned to form not long after he came back.

Thus, the 25-year-old is a hugely integral part of Klopp’s team at Anfield, and will play a big role in what the Reds go on to achieve both this season and in years to come.

Mohamed Salah

With Coutinho struggling with injury at the start of the season and Mane having been out of the side as well, there was a lot of pressure on summer signing Mohamed Salah to hit the ground running at Liverpool.

And the Egypt international has done just that with a staggering 12 goals in just 17 appearances for the Reds, seven of which have come in the Premier League and four of which have helped propel them to the top of their Champions League group.

Thus, the 25-year-old is proving to be worth every penny of the €42 million they spent to lure him from Roma during the close season, so it’s evident that his efforts between now and the end of the season will have a huge bearing on what success Liverpool have this term.

Thomas Lemar

Thomas Lemar played a big part in helping Monaco win the Ligue 1 title last season, as well as reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League.

The 22-year-old bagged nine goals and laid on 11 assists to help Leonardo Jardim’s men end Paris Saint-Germain’s dominance of the French top-flight by winning the club’s first title since 2000, while he also laid on five assists in helping the side reach the last four of the Champions League, where they then lost to beaten finalists Juventus.

Yet there was a mass exodus at the Stade Louis II during the summer, which saw the likes of Bernando Silva and Kylian Mbappe left the club, and Lemar was reportedly on his way as well as Arsenal lined up a late summer move for the forward.

But the Gunners are now reportedly pursuing other targets, which leaves Liverpool and Barcelona to battle it out for Lemar, in a deal the Reds simply must get done to enhance their already frightening front line.
