However, according to this report, a fee of up to €160m has been agreed for the former Inter Milan playmaker, with the Anfield club said to have asked to delay proceedings as they hunt for a replacement.
Fenway Sports Group have finally given in to the player’s request to leave Merseyside for the Camp Nou, who are flush with cash after the departure Neymar for a world-record fee.
It’s understood that FSG hope the signings of Naby Keita and potentially Virgil van Dijk and Thomas Lemar appease the Kop faithful, with Coutinho looking likely to depart.
Landlord’s Verdict:
It seems strange to sell Coutinho at such a late stage after fighting so hard to keep him, though Liverpool would have enjoyed a very good window if they can land either Lemar or van Dijk.
With Naby Keita officially joining next year, Jurgen Klopp has a great side and an unhappy Coutinho would be a distraction.
