Our Liverpool fans here in the Transfer Tavern are hoping that a few players can join Virgil Van Dijk in coming to Anfield this January. Indeed, after beating Man City last weekend, our resident Reds believe their team is just a few players short of being the best in England. 

Indeed, FSG have simply got to back Jurgen Klopp in this winter window, according to our bar staff, especially after the past few months where many of the regulars have noticed an upturn in the club’s form and league position.

After the performance against league leaders Man City, Klopp and his team can really kick on in the second half of the season and will be hoping to add some silverware to the trophy cabinet in the next season or two, truly marking his tenure at Anfield as a successful one.

The German’s brand of high pressing attacking football is certainly turning the Reds into a feared force in the Premier League and Europe and just a couple of correct acquisition in this window could transform this Liverpool side into genuine title contenders next season.

With that in mind, our landlord takes a look at two players that Klopp should be targetting before 1st February…

Thomas Lemar

The versatile Monaco player could be the perfect signing for Klopp, he can play down either wing or through the middle. With Liverpool looking to replace the departed Coutinho, they have money just burning a hole in their pocket and Lemar would command a fair fee to transfer to the North West.

Still, many of our regulars believe the Frenchman could be a real success at Anfield, despite only grabbing a couple of goals this term in Ligue 1.

Leon Goretzka

Despite being out of contract in the summer, the Schalke midfielder is still surely highly wanted by Klopp to reinforce his midfield following the departure of Coutinho. Despite being linked with a move to Bayern Munich, Liverpool should be pulling out all the stops to win the race for his signature.

At 22, the German is still nowhere near his prime and would be a fantastic signing.
