Gary Cahill needs the move to AC Milan to rejuvenate his career

Gary Cahill would be a perfect fit for AC Milan as an injury crisis continues to damage the Italian club’s season.

According to Corriere Dello Sport, as cited by the Sun, the Rossoneri are planning to make an urgent move for the Chelsea club-captain in January as they try to rescue their campaign after suffering major injury blows since August.

Cahill is looking like an easy target for Milan after being snubbed for most of the season by new Blues manager Maurizio Sarri and with his contract set to run out at the end of the season. The 32-year-old has fallen out of favour at Stamford Bridge with Sarri opting for a centre-back pairing of Antonio Rudiger and David Luiz.

One substituted appearance in the Premier League and a couple of starts in the Europa League and the Carabao Cup have left the England international frustrated and uncertain as to where his future might lie. No indications have been made if the London club is considering a new deal for Cahill, who joined Chelsea in 2012 from Bolton Wanderers.

But, an extension seems highly unlikely and would a move to Milan only be a good thing for Cahill. Playing in the Serie A would provide him with a great opportunity to get much-needed game-time under his belt while also embracing a new and different challenge.

Milan manager Gennaro Gattuso would certainly benefit from someone with the experience of Cahill and the success he’s achieved at Chelsea. Gattuso currently has to do without three centre-backs with Mateo Musacchio, Mattia Caldara, as well as captain Alessio Romagnoli all, sidelined with injury, leaving the door open for Cahill to fit right into the first-team.

The opportunity would also present Cahill with possibly the final chance of his career to play against some of the best players and show his worth on the highest level, given that he might move to a different, less competitive league in the future.
