Rangers fans in the Transfer Tavern will be extremely excited about what the future holds at Ibrox under the guidance of Steven Gerrard.
The former Liverpool star was made manager last month and has already been busy making his mark over the Light Blues, including making six signings already with no plans to slow his recruitment drive down.
One of those players that came through the door recently is Connor Goldson, a man it appears that Gerrard has a high opinion of and believes he can make a serious impact for the Gers from the beginning.
The former Brighton and Hove Albion defender, who joined on a four-year deal, has impressed the new manager with his leadership qualities and believes he can take ownership of the defence from the get-go.
“In terms of Connor, he’s ready to go. He’s had a frustrating couple of years in terms of being a back-up player at Brighton and he doesn’t see himself as a back-up player and neither do I,” he told the club’s official website.
“I see him as a leader, a starter and someone who can come in and cajole the defence and take ownership of that and he’s just glad that it’s finally over the line and he’s a Rangers player, he’s as hungry as anyone to get going.
“That was an area where we needed players but players who fit the profile, who are hungry, who want to come in and defend this badge with their life.”
Landlord’s Verdict
With Gerrard speaking very highly of him, many in the Tavern will be expecting huge things from Goldson when Rangers get their season underway. There is a sense that the new manager could name him as his new captain, especially with comments like that being made, and the locals in the bar will be excited to see what he can bring to the Ibrox defence.
