Rangers fans in the Transfer Tavern are buzzing with the club’s early business in the transfer window with plenty of new faces arriving at Ibrox.
Steven Gerrard was announced as their new manager and wasted no time in revamping his squad as he looks to challenge Celtic for the Scottish Premiership trophy next year. Scott Arfield joined from Burnley on a free transfer, and Allan McGregor rejected a new deal at Hull to re-join the Gers. Jamie Murphy’s loan move from Brighton was made permanent. Gerrard also brought a host of backroom staff from Liverpool to Glasgow.
The Reds recently announced their retained list for the 2017/18 season with Emre Can and Jon Flanagan the notable inclusions. Valued at £2.25m by Transfermarkt, Flanagan spent the last half of the season on loan at Bolton Wanderers where made nine appearances. Following his release at Anfield, Gerrard should bring him to Ibrox.

Rangers right-back, James Tavernier, has been linked with a move to the Premier League which would leave Lee Hodson as the only right-sided defender at Gerrard’s disposal. Flanagan played alongside Gerrard during his time on Merseyside and would be a decent upgrade in defence. The 25-year-old needs a change of environment to get his career back on track.
The Englishman was a star of Liverpool’s 13/14 season where he featured at right-back and left-back. His performances earned him the nickname of ‘Scouse Cafu’ in reference to the legendary Brazilian defender. Indeed, Gerrard once even compared Flano with Anfield legend Jamie Carragher, so he certainly thinks highly of him.
