Glasgow Rangers: Interest remains from English quartet in Connor Goldson

As per Football Insider, Glasgow Rangers may need to offer Connor Goldson a new contract in order to fend off interest from West Ham, Leeds, West Brom and Fulham.

The report says that the 27-year-old has been on the radar of said clubs since January, and that the Gers are said to value him at £6m+.

However, they also add that a new contract may be needed if they are persuade him to ignore interest from those sides south of the border and remain at Ibrox going forward.

There is no doubting that Goldson has been an inspired signing by Gerrard since he made the move to Ibrox from Brighton & Hove Albion. Before the campaign was recently ended, he made 51 appearances in all competitions, missing just two matches along the way. That is actually not as many as the previous term, during he which he featured 54 times.

He has played an important role in the Gers’ sturdy defence, as well, with the 19 goals they have conceded in the Scottish top tier the joint-least along with Celtic. Since he made the £3m move north of the border, he has proven himself to be a valuable purchase.

Next term, Gerrard needs silverware – he can surely not go another campaign without winning a trophy. As such, the Gers just cannot afford to let Goldson depart, even for the price they are said to be looking for. At this time, they should be looking to add to their squad, not remove one its most important players.

When Gerrard leaves, he will want to look back at his time with the Ibrox outfit with fondness, and his success will be measured in winning trophies. Keeping Goldson is essential to just that given how crucial he has been at the back for them over the last two years.
