The Arsenal fans were drowning their sorrows in the Transfer Tavern last night after their side suffered a dismal defeat against Manchester City in the final of the Carabao Cup.
Arsenal and Manchester City met for the second successive season at Wembley yesterday afternoon for a repeat fixture of the FA Cup semi-final which took place in 2017. Arsene Wenger’s side played brilliantly and dug deep to overturn a 1 nil deficit to qualify for the final last season, but City got their sweet revenge yesterday by inflicting a 3 nil defeat on the hapless Gunners.
Manchester City didn’t have to wait too long to open the scoring in the capital, as Claudio Bravo’s long punt over the top somehow found its way to Sergio Aguero who executed a wonderful lob over the onrushing David Ospina after 18 minutes.
However, there is no way that Aguero should have been allowed the time and space he was given to fire City in-front, as he only managed to steal in behind due to a shambolic error from Shkodran Mustafi, (valued at £25.2 million by Transfermarkt) who demonstrated a severe lack of fundamental defensive awareness by standing in front of Aguero on the half-way line.
The manner in which Mustafi defended would have been justifiably slated in a Sunday league match at amateur level, so it’s no wonder the German international has been subjected to a barrage of scathing criticism from Arsenal supporters in the aftermath of proceedings.
Losing a cup final is always a difficult result for supporters to take, but the manner in which Mustafi allowed City to gain an early advantage has served to intensify the disappointment amongst the Gunners faithful.

He was very naive no doubt and like many of our players looks poorly coached. The entire defence is an unmitigated disaster. One player makes an error and the who system falls apart. That points to one person who coaches them, picks them and sets them up.
