Get it done: Southampton should seal these 2 signings before the Swansea match

The Saints have come marching into the Transfer Tavern today and they will be hoping some business will be done before the start of the season.

Southampton had an ok season last time out finishing eight and getting to the final of the League Cup against Manchester United.

Following on from Swansea’s disappointing campaign last season, the Saints have to be going into their opening day fixture at home against Paul Clement’s side.

They’ve had a relatively quiet transfer window so far with the biggest transfer stories surrounding their club being about Virgil van Dijk’s potential departure to Liverpool.

Mauricio Pellegrino will be hoping to bring some fresh faces in to strengthen his squad in time for the new season in a bid to improve on last year and possibly win a trophy this time out.

With that being said, here are two players Southampton should complete the signings of before their opening day match against Swansea.

Wesley Hoedt

It’s looking like Southampton will be accepting defeat and letting Van Dijk join Liverpool this summer.

Pellegrino will be in desperate need of a replacement in his defence and reports have suggested he is turning to Lazio centre-back, Wesley Hoedt.

So early on in his career it is difficult to pin point exactly how good of a replacement he will be but Southampton are obviously tracking the player and if Van Dijk leaves, time will be of the essence.

Luciano Vietto

Another option up top is never a bad thing.

Manolo Gabbiadini only signed in January but his high scoring start ended as quickly as it had begun.

Luciano Vietto had an ok season on loan at Sevilla, scoring 10 goals in 31 games for the club so it is clear to see he has an eye for goal.

Perhaps Pellegrino can turn those 10 goals into 20 and give Swansea a tough time on the opening day.
