It’s fair to say the Toon Army are absolute furious in the Transfer Tavern following yet another disappointing transfer window and a deadline day draw against Burnley to match.
The January window drew to a close yesterday and Newcastle United welcomed Leicester City outcast Islam Slimani to the club on a short-term loan deal to conclude a rather uninspiring month of business from the North-East giants. The Magpies also welcomed Martin Dubravka to the club from Sparta Prague on deadline day to provide cover for Karl Darlow and Rob Elliot between the sticks.
Newcastle were in action last night against Burnley at St James’ Park in a match which allowed Kenedy to showcase his talents in a Newcastle shirt for the first time. The Brazilian hugely impressed on his debut as he hit the post, won a penalty, and provided an assist for Jamal Lascelles to open to scoring in the 65th minute.
However, Newcastle were unable to hold onto their slender advantage, as Burnley grabbed an 85th minute equaliser after Karl Darlow was unfortunate to turn the ball into his own net following a Sam Vokes header.
The result was a bitter disappointment for Newcastle having come so close to collecting three-points, but the biggest disappointment for the supporters in recent times has been their club’s failure to make a single permanent signing during the January window.
Newcastle’s managing director Lee Charnley has come in for some strong criticism from the supporters as a consequence of their lack of activity in the mid-season window, and plenty of the Toon Army are beginning to call for his departure.
