49,000 Rangers fans packed into Ibrox this weekend to watch Pedro Caixinha’s side struggle to a 1-1 draw with struggling Motherwell and it’s becoming clearer and clearer just how much work there is to do over the summer.

Fans in here looked on in mild horror as a third minute Louis Moult goal put Motherwell ahead but thanks to some pretty fearless management by Caixinha, Gers rallied and got back into the game through Joe Garner.

But the fact of the matter is that Rangers should certainly be beating sides like Motherwell and it’s their inability to do so which has left them so far off the pace in the division this season.

They’re going to even struggle to catch second-placed Aberdeen now too and there is certainly a lot of work to do over the summer months to get this squad, where they really need to be next season.

So armed with some passionate thoughts from our Rangers-obsessed landlord, here’s the Rangers players that should be AXED by Caixinha this summer…

Matt Crooks

Midfielder Matt Crooks is finally beginning to show some form for loan-outfit Scunthorpe, having scored three in his last three outings.

But the fact of the matter is that this is a player who was better suited to the lower divisions in Scotland, not the Champions League-chasing Gers that we’re used to seeing season after season.

Caixinha will show him the door this summer.

Lee Wallace

Both full-backs, skipper Lee Wallace and Lee Hodson were taken off at half time as Caixinha went all out to try and get the win at Ibrox.

Rangers’ defensive problems have been apparent all season and it’s arguably the area that they need to improve most if they are to really get amongst the title-chasers next season.

Moult was unmarked to score the opening goal and you expect better organisation from a player of Wallace’s experience.

Clint Hill

Now 38-years-old, Gers fans are extremely grateful for the work we’ve seen from Clint Hill over the past couple of seasons but he’s a long way past his sell-by date and the club need better to take them forward.

The former QPR man has heart, experience and fight but at this level, it’s not enough and at times against Motherwell, he was given the runaround by Moult – a £50,000 signing from Wrexham.

Niko Kranjcar

Niko Kranjcar is as experienced as they come in England but now 32-years-old and out-of-form, he hasn’t looked like the player we saw during his time at Spurs in the slightest.

He didn’t make Caixinha’s squad for the game against Motherwell and he’s thought to be one of the highest earners at the club as well.

Another one that will surely be shown the door this summer.
