Glasgow Rangers coach Michael Beale has told Rangers TV that he is disappointed that Jamie Barjonas was not called up to the Scotland under-21 squad.
The Tartan Army’s youth side will play Lithuania during the international break and the ‘Gers have already had a number of their younger stars called up – Robby McCrorie, Kieran Wright, Nathan Patterson, Lewis Mayo, Glenn Middleton and Stephen Kelly have all been included. However, Barjonas has been overlooked by manager Scott Gemmill.

Following the announcement of the squad, Beale shared his frustration over the latter’s omission. He said:
“I am a bit disappointed for Jamie Barjonas.
“I felt that he possibly deserves to be in that camp as well.
“He’s been training ever so well with the first team for a number of months now.”
Barjonas will no doubt be disappointed to not be included. Whilst he is yet to feature for Steven Gerrard’s first team in 2020/21, he did well in pre-season, even scoring in one of the Ibrox outfit’s warm-up games. He also has experience from his spells at Raith Rovers, Bury and Partick Thistle.

At 21, though, his time to make a real impression with the 54-time Scottish champions is beginning to run out. Perhaps the fact that he is yet to play regularly, even at his age, is one of the reasons why he has not been selected by Gemmill this time around.
