Glasgow Rangers: Steven Gerrard provides double injury blow

Steven Gerrard has confirmed that both Jermain Defoe and Allan McGregor will miss out on Glasgow Rangers’ tie with St. Johnstone on Wednesday evening.

Both Defoe and McGregor were unavailable for the match against St. Mirren last Sunday, but Gerrard had confirmed that they had returned to training this week and that McGregor was even in contention to appear during this midweek. However, he has now confirmed that both are unavailable.

He said:

“Jermain did a light session yesterday, but there was a small setback in that session so he will struggle for tomorrow and maybe for the weekend.

“Allan McGregor won’t make it. He’ll need a couple more days. He should be fine for the weekend.”

As two of the most experienced players in the squad, the duo do have a big role to play this term, but for the sake of one match Gerrard will be more than able to make do without them. New signing Jon McLaughlin started in that previous clash and kept a clean sheet – he looks to be a reliable pair of hands.

Up front, Alfredo Morelos should lead the line, whilst Kemar Roofe and Cedric Itten are other options the boss can look to. Even without Defoe and McGregor, he will be expecting a big performance from his team.
