Frank McAvennie has told Football Insider that he does not think Glasgow Rangers can afford to sign Lyndon Dykes this summer.
The Gers have been linked with a move for the 24-year-old after he impressed in the Scottish Premiership before it was prematurely drawn to a close – he scored nine times and provided eight assists in 25 matches for Livingston. That has attracted the attention of the Ibrox outfit.

McAvennie, though, believes the 54-time Scottish champions will be priced out of a move, saying:
“Dykes has caused problems for the Rangers and Celtic defence.
“He could have tipped his hat to Scotland and I would have endeared him but he is going to play for Australia which is fine.
“A good player but he will cost a lot of money. I do not know if Rangers could afford him.”
It appears that Livingston are looking for £2m for a player who is currently valued by Transfermarkt at £428,000 – that represents a significant increase. However, the Gers have already parted with £3m to sign Ianis Hagi and are still in the race for Ivan Toney, who has been valued at £10m recently.

After having sold almost 35,000 season tickets already, and with the coffers boosted by a new manufacturing deal with Castore, there is no reason from a financial point of view why the Gers couldn’t afford to make that kind of bid. Whether he is the right pick for them, though, is a totally different matter.
