Glasgow Rangers: Fans delighted as club announce new signing Calvin Bassey

Glasgow Rangers have already been busy ahead of the 2020/21 season by signing Ianis Hagi.

After arriving on loan from Genk in January, the Romania international impressed during his short loan spell before the Scottish Premiership was brought to an abrupt halt, as he scored three goals in 12 games for the Gers, including a brace against Braga in the Europa League.

Hagi will reunite with Steven Gerrard’s squad when the team return for training ahead of completing a permanent move for £3m in the summer.

Now, the club has announced Calvin Bassey has signed a pre-contract to join Rangers from Leicester City and he will move to Ibrox when the transfer window opens.

The 20-year-old has agreed a four-year-contract with the Light Blues and he can play as a left-back or centre-back, so the board will be hoping his versatility can make a vital difference in the future.

His arrival marks Gerrard’s third signing of the summer, following the announcement that Charlie Lindsay has joined the club from Glentoran.

Unsurprisingly, the Gers fans have been reacting to the “excellent” transfer news on social media, with one supporter tweeting it is “absolutely fantastic.” Meanwhile, a third described Bassey, who stands at just under 6’0″ tall, as an “absolute unit.”
