Glasgow Rangers: Clint Hill thinks George Edmundson can replace Nikola Katic

Former Glasgow Rangers defender Clint Hill has said it could be George Edmundson’s time to shine following the injury to Nikola Katic.

The Gers were hit with a big blow recently after it was confirmed that the Croatian will be out for the foreseeable future following a training injury. Steven Gerrard does have Filip Helander also available to him to partner Connor Goldson, along with Edmundson, but out-of-contract Christian Maghoma has been mentioned as a potential new arrival.

Hill, though, believes 22-year-old Edmundson can step into the breach. He told The Daily Record:

“In terms of the Rangers defence I haven’t seen enough of Filip Helander. He came in and got a run of games before he picked up his injury and then it was Connor and Niko with George Edumundson fighting for the spot.

“I like Edmundson. He’s a good young talent with a good physique and temperament so maybe it’s his time to shine with the huge blow of Katic’s injury.”

The centre-back has not yet nailed down a place in Gerrard’s starting line-up – he made just 15 appearances in all competitions last term after joining from Oldham. However, the Ibrox outfit did concede just two goals during the 374 minutes he spent on the pitch in the league.

Currently valued at £495,000 by Transfermarkt, Edmundson will likely be behind Helander in the pecking order, but he will be hoping that he is given the opportunity to fill in the void left by Katic.
