Ex-Glasgow Rangers man Steven Thompson has said that the SPFL were in too much of a rush to get the season prematurely ended, and that they should have taken more time before coming to such a big decision.
The 41-year-old made more than 50 appearances for the Gers during a three-year spell between 2003 and 2006 at Ibrox, although many of those came as a substitute. Other clubs during his career were Dundee, Burnley, Cardiff City and St. Mirren.

Now a pundit, he spoke to the BBC (via The Scottish Sun) about the whole affair, and he believes the campaign should have been finished. He said:
“The clubs and the SPFL board were desperate to release funds to the clubs and that was the reason everybody voted for the league to be concluded.
“I felt there was not enough time and consideration given to trying to explore every possibility to finish the season.
“Hindsight is a great thing but looking back now, if the SPFL board were not in such a rush to get it done, I think we could have been back.
“The amount of games left, you could have squeezed the games in.
“We weren’t to know that James Anderson was going to come up with a big pot of money and a lot of things have happened.
“But in terms of fairness with Hearts being relegated and of course all Rangers fans think Celtic’s title is tainted, they wouldn’t have been any of these questions had we finished the season.”
Indeed, this has been a hot topic over the past few months. Despite the Gers’ calls for the campaign to be finished on the pitch, it was decided that the term could not be completed, which led to its premature end. That has opened a whole can of worms, with Hearts and Partick Thistle now to take legal action against the SPFL following their relegations to the Championship and League One respectively.

Given that the majority of divisions across Europe have now restarted, including the Premier League, it does seem that the governing body, as well as the clubs across the country, moved a little hastily.
