Barry Fry has confirmed that Peterborough will allow Glasgow Rangers target Ivan Toney to leave the club this summer following a promise made to him in January.
The 24-year-old striker was in stunning form in the previous campaign for Posh, scoring 24 goals in 32 games in League One, and that has attracted the interest of the likes of the Gers, Celtic, Brentford and West Brom. There was reportedly eyes on him in January.

Peterborough chairman Fry has admitted, though, that whilst he was not allowed to leave at the start of the year, they will let him move on this summer instead. He told Peterborough Today:
“Ivan wanted to leave once he became aware of interest from higher-level clubs.
“He asked me if he could leave, he asked the chairman and he asked the manager. His agents were pushing as well.
“And fair play to the club owners as they turned down Ivan’s request because they did not want to short-change the fans as letting him go would have meant giving up on promotion.
“And fair play to Ivan as well because although he must have been disappointed he still turned up for training every day with a smile on his face and he gave everything he had for the club in training and in matches.
“We promised him we would let him go if we didn’t reach the Championship and we will stick to our word.
“Our stance might backfire on us a little with the fee we receive, but we remain confident it won’t.
This is fantastic news for the Gers, which comes following reports that said they had prepared to ramp up their pursuit of the forward. Now, Fry has confirmed that they will not stand in the player’s way if he wants to leave, and he has admitted it could lead to a lower fee as a result.

It has been reported that they want £8m for his services, which would still be a significant fee, but his previous campaign does show that he is a proven goalscorer. It remains to be seen where his next club is.
