The Chelsea fans here in the Transfer Tavern are hoping that the Blues downward spiral stops as soon as possible. Indeed, it seems like every time the west London giants win a league title, they are brought crashing back down to earth shortly after. 

Chelsea so far this year have not been anywhere near their best, having only won a couple of games in all competitions. Being knocked out of the Carabao Cup by London rivals Arsenal and then suffering back-to-back three-goal defeats for the first time since 1995 has piled the pressure on boss Antonio Conte.

After a disastrous summer transfer window, the winter one wasn’t deemed much better by our regular Blues in the bar. All this has aided towards Chelsea’s landslide towards fifth place and struggling to keep hold of a top-four finish.

Many stars are under-performing at present but the glass-collector believes that two of them need to cut their losses now and bailout.

With that in mind, our landlord takes a look at the TWO players in question a little more in-depth…

Gary Cahill

The club captain is not having his best season so far and he’s not the same player he has been since his move from Bolton many years ago. With a stat flying around the Tavern, which shows that Cahill’s influence is greater when he’s not playing compared to when he is, he certainly needs taking out of the limelight.

He’s been a good servant to Chelsea Football Club, though perhaps the England international isn’t a long-term option anymore. Before the clock ticks on his Chelsea career, it may be time for Cahill to move on much like his predecessor did last season.

Michy Batshuayi

The Belgian striker finally made the move out of Stamford Bridge in the winter following a tough 18 months at the club, albeit on loan. Indeed, his move to the Bundesliga may be a good decision in the long term too, after failing to woo Conte during their time together.

It’s quite clear that he doesn’t feature in Conte’s long-term plans and with that in mind, he should look at bailing out of Stamford Bridge the sooner the better for his career.
