Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are celebrating how the club has transformed itself under Antonio Conte, who is on the verge of guiding the Blues to a second Premier League title in the space of three seasons.
The West Londoners lifted the crown under Jose Mourinho two summers ago but suffered a humiliating title defence in 2015/16 – eventually finishing the campaign in 10th place – that cost the Portuguese his job as Stamford Bridge boss.
Conte arrived in the summer after stepping down as Italy manager and has instantaneously revived Chelsea as the Premier League’s dominant force, now sitting ten points clear at the division’s summit after a 2-1 win over West Ham on Monday night.
Conte has recently revealed that his family, who still live in Italy, are missing him, triggering some speculation over his future with the champions in waiting.
But according to Sky Sports, the 47-year-old could sign a new contract in a ‘matter of days’ and potentially even before Chelsea’s next fixture – an FA Cup quarter-final clash with Manchester United on Monday.
Such a deal would undoubtedly be a delight for Chelsea fans; Conte’s win rate with the Blues is a staggering 78.8%, suffering just four defeats throughout his 33-game tenure. Even more impressively, two of those came against Arsenal and Liverpool, before the Italian implemented his 3-4-3 formation at the start of October.
