Harry Redknapp may not like to be referred to as a wheeler dealer, but there is a transfer story flying about the Tavern every day involving him and his Tottenham side, and today is no different, with us hearing suggestions that Nigerian winger Ahmed Musa is catching his attention.
The winger who has also been linked to a couple of other clubs around Europe has been deemed one of the most exciting players in recent Nigerian history.
Musa began his playing career in his homeland where he played for a couple of different clubs, and demonstrated his immense potential, and was soon occupying many of the most respected ‘one’s to watch’ lists in world football. He attracted the attention of bigger clubs and on his 18th birthday he was transferred to VVV-Venlo in the Dutch top flight. In only his first season with the Dutch side he has looked an incredibly exciting prospect and has now been added to the IFFHS best 140 players in the world list.
The player who normally plays from wide areas has already broken into the national team, despite being only 18 years old, and interest in him is extremely high, Borussia Dortmund in recent days were thought to be leading the pack, Musa’s guardian has said:
“Yes they (Borussia Dortmund) have showed interest in Ahmed Musa….But Ahmed still has a contract at VVV-Venlo and as his guardian I want him and his agent to respect that except VVV-Venlo are ready to do business with Borussia Dortmund for the player.”.
There is the indication that the player and his representatives would welcome the chance to talk to with Dortmund, who currently lead the Bundesliga, should the opportunity arise this summer, but it is also clear that Musa is happy to stay with his current club for the time being if that is deemed beneficial to his career.
That however has not put off Harry Redknapp, who is apparently keen to move for the player this summer to add more pace and top quality wide men to his Tottenham team. It is unclear at this point what sort of fee would be involved but if they are to beat off Dortmund and Dutch giants Ajax it could be quite a big deal to finance.
There is a lot expected of the youngster and hopefully with the right people around him he can live up to the pressure of expectation on his shoulders. It would be a waste if he moved to a bigger club too early and struggled, in many ways another season in Holland may not be a bad thing, but whether he and his club can resist the temptation of a big money deal remains to be seen.
