Jose Mourinho went with a much-changed line-up against Wolves, possibly with one eye on Wednesday’s important FA Cup clash against Norwich.
The Spurs boss made four changes in total, with notable absentees including Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen and Hugo Lloris.
That meant there was a lot less experience in the side, particularly in defence, and that was best summed up by the fact that 24-year-old Harry Winks took the armband in place of Lloris.
It likely meant a great deal for the Tottenham academy product, who has been a part of the club for a number of years and grew up watching the likes of Ledley King leading the side out.
Winks developed into a first-team player under Mauricio Pochettino but he has been ever-present under Mourinho, too, featuring in 12 out of 16 league games under the Portuguese manager.
The majority of supporters were delighted to see one of their own captain the side, but there were some voices of discontent from those who don’t think the midfielder has been good enough this season.
