Harsh? The 2 Southampton players who are always seemingly seen as scapegoats

It’s been a fairly stress free season endured by Southampton fans in the Transfer Tavern.

The South Coast club sit in the mid table in the Premier League and our resident Saints fans have seen their side perform the way they expected way back at the start of the season.

Our landlord agrees that Southampton have provided no shocks and with Claude Puel reaching the EFL Cup final in his first season, the Frenchman may even be able to deem his first season at St Mary’s as a success.

However, with a somewhat safe season being endured by Southampton fans in the Tavern, some players have been singled out as not pulling their weight in order to try and push their club up that level to compete for a place in next season’s top six.

To say our landlord disagrees with his regular Saints in the Tavern is an understatement, and he has made the point that yet again, Southampton have gone through a rebuilding season by securing a mid-table spot in the Premier League – something that cannot be said for other sides.

However, the Saints fans in the Tavern are not having it and have come back with the TWO players they like to portray as scapegoats…

Jordy Clasie

The Dutchman has been in and out Claude Puel’s side this season and although he has never done a bad job, our landlord feels the outstanding performances of Oriol Romeu and Steven Davis has meant that Clasie has got some unfair criticism from the Southampton fans.

However, Saints fans feel their comments are completely justified and the expectation of Clasie to match the performances of Romeu and Davis is what is needed, if their club is to push for the top six next season.

Sofiane Boufal

Our landlord has likened Boufal to former Saint, Gaston Ramirez, who had a huge impact in his first few seasons on the South Coast and believes the Moroccan possesses a lot of talent.

It is fair to say Boufal’s first season at the club has been hampered by injuries, however a large proportion of Saints fans in the Tavern aren’t having it and believe he has been lazy at times for their club this season.
