I don’t think any Arsenal fan would view Adel Taarabt as the one that got away…no football would think that. Apart from the player himself it now appears.
Before the Morrocan signed for Spurs he was closely linked with Arsenal and because of their success with young continental players, maybe he would have fared better under the tutorlige of Arsene Wenger.
This however was not to be and the rest is as they say history. Taarabt is remembered for his non-career with Spurs as opposed to a glittering career on the field. He took a very brave decision to drop a division and signed with QPR, it looks to have totally paid off, the problem is however that after making a good decision, he might now be about to shoot himself in the foot.
It appears that current club QPR will be a Premier League side next season, and Taarabt is captaining them, is he proud? Is he pleased? Who knows, because all he seems intent on doing his talking his way out of the club that saved his career, shameful!
Over recent months the player has been linked with big money moves to former club Tottenham, Chelsea, Manchester United and now Arsenal. The problem is that you have to question where these stories in the press come from, the sceptic in me thinks that most of the links come from the players people and advisors.
Taarabt commented on the stories linking him to Arsenal, he has said:
“I would have had a better chance at Arsenal. It was a mistake [joining Spurs]. I would progress with Arsene Wenger because he is one of the best managers in the world….I like the way Arsenal play. If Arsenal come, of course, I’ll be very happy”.
It is difficult to see the sense in the story really. Taarabt is clearly a good player and he is definitely capable of being a solid performer in the Premier League, but I have two problems with this. Firstly there is no evidence yet that he is good enough for one of the biggest and best clubs in the world, that is something that he needs to prove with a lesser club first. Secondly, he owes more to his current club and if he stayed with them and continued to work maybe next year in the top flight he could really demonstrate his abilities.
I feel that a lot of these stories have little substance, if it was sides like Aston Villa, Sunderland and Newcastle being linked with the winger then I could see some truth in them, but Taarabt just seems to have a massive ego, him playing for Arsenal next year? No chance!
