The Tottenham Hotspur fans here in the Transfer Tavern are used to a lack of activity early on in the summer window. Indeed, the punters propping up our bar have already been treated to the signing of Harry Kane on a long-term contract, so aren’t expecting all too much before the World Cup.
Well, while our local Lilywhites aren’t wholly expectant of big deals right away, links with a move for Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish haven’t gone down well. In fact, Villa owner Dr Tony Xia is understood (as per the Independent) to want around £30m for the 22-year-old, a deal that would surely be far too expensive for a player of that quality.
Clearly, Grealish boasts a certain amount of talent and has enjoyed a good season in the Championship, though that kind of money should really buy you a better player. Not only that, the No.10 has endured his fair share of off the field criticism in his short career thus far, so it’s not a deal to excite fans.
