‘He is inching closer’ – Arsenal fans on Twitter expect big name reunion in the future

The Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern have been congratulating Patrick Vieira, as the Arsenal icon has been appointed as the new manager of Ligue 1 club, OGC Nice. The Frenchman left his previous post as manager of MLS club, New York City FC and will officially take up his new post in France on the 1st July.

The former Arsenal midfielder was touted as the man to replace Arsene Wenger at The Emirates, although the 41-year-old ruled himself out of the job in an interview claiming that he was happy in his current role and had no intentions of leaving. The ex-France international has now taken the next step in management sooner than the fans thought he would as he’s joined a team in one of Europe’s top domestic leagues.

Vieira will hopefully be one of the next men to take up the post in the Arsenal managerial hot seat. The combative midfielder quickly became a fan favourite in his playing days at Highbury and The Emirates and the Gunners will all be hoping they can get behind their ex-midfielder if he does eventually become the gaffer in North London, although for now they’ll all be wishing him well in France and getting behind their own new man, Unai Emery.

Vieira’s move to Europe is definitely the right one for his career, although a move to Arsenal looks a long way away at the moment, managing at Nice is a huge task for the former Arsenal man and he’s sure to grab the challenge with both hands.
