Arsenal punters in the Transfer Tavern aren’t on the best of terms with midfielder Mesut Ozil at the moment.
The German World Cup winner is the Gunners’ all-time record signing but hasn’t had the desired effect since moving to north London from Real Madrid in summer 2013.
Ozil’s often been accused of going missing in big games and when his side needs him most, although whether he actually gets enough of the ball to make an impact in such scenarios remains a subject open to debate in the Tavern.
Ozil sat out of the Gunners’ Premier League clash with West Brom earlier this month due to injury but surprisingly recovered in time to represent Germany from the substitutes bench in a win over Azerbaijan last Sunday – something else that hasn’t sat well with the Tavern’s Arsenal contingent.
Nonetheless, you would have thought a Twitter post involving his niece, Mira, would be counted as sanctuary by the trolls – in other words, not the time to unleash their angst towards the attacking midfielder.
