Rangers: Alan Hutton praises Glen Kamara

Former Glasgow Rangers man Alan Hutton says the signing of Glen Kamara ranks alongside that of James Tavernier.

Special praise for Kamara

Kamara has been in fantastic form for Rangers recently, especially in the Old Firm against Celtic. The 24-year-old managed a SofaScore rating of 7.2, with him winning eight from 12 duels and racking up a 75% dribble success rate.

Who scored more goals for the Gers?

He was signed for just £50,000 from Dundee last January, and Hutton believes it is a deal that ranks up there with the best. He told Football Insider:

“I mean, it’s probably one of the best bits of business along with James Tavernier. I think to get a fantastic player for so cheap, he’s really grown in stature.

“He’s been schooled in the Arsenal way, technically he’s very good, he’s fitted in like a glove and now we’re seeing the best of him, he seems really confident, he really believes in what he’s doing.

“He’s just really playing at such a high level at the moment and it really doesn’t surprise me that teams have been looking at him and I do believe there’s more to come. I’m really looking forward to watching him in the upcoming season.”

Tavernier and Kamara are two of the best

Looking back at it now, the signing of Kamara was inspired by Steven Gerrard. The Finland international has missed just one from a possible 14 games in all competitions so far this term, and was even the subject of €10m (£9.1m) interest from Marseille earlier this year. In a short amount of time, he has become a hugely important member of the Liverpool legend’s Rangers’ squad.

The signing of Tavernier was also mightily impressive. He made the move to Ibrox from Wigan in 2015 for £225,000, and he has ended up becoming captain. Going forward, he is a force to be reckoned with, having amassed 54 goals and 79 assists in 257 games. It is easy to forget he is only a right-back.

Which signing was better?

There is no doubt about it – these two bits of business were genius, with meticulous planning from former DoF Mark Allen leading to such astute buys. They should actually be the blueprint for Ross Wilson and co moving forward.
