The Southampton fans in the Transfer Tavern have been joking that their Portuguese right-back, Cedric should get some game time up front after he scored his first Saints goal against Wigan on the weekend. The South Coast club advanced to the last four of the FA Cup on Sunday as they beat Wigan 2-0 at the DW Stadium.
The Southampton fans propping our bar up weren’t the least bit sorry as they popped Wigan’s FA Cup bubble to give themselves something to shout about during a dismal league campaign. The St Mary’s faithful, who finished last season in a very respectable 8th place in the Premier League and managed to reach the League Cup final, have had to suffer a torrid time this campaign.
Mark Hughes will be hoping he can use his first win at the club in the FA Cup to kick his side on in the league. The Saints currently sit in the relegation zone in 18th and find themselves two points away from 17th placed West Ham. Whilst Hughes certainly has his work cut out at Southampton, he’ll be confident he can find the winning formula if he can get his forward’s finding the net like Cedric did on Sunday.
