If Toby Alderwerield leaves Tottenham, Pochettino must ask Levy to land these two stars

The Tottenham Hotspur fans here in the Transfer Tavern will be sure to pose the question to manager Mauricio Pochettino, who are you going to replace Toby Alderwerield with, should he leave?

Spurs are in a little bit of a pickle when it comes to extending Alderwerield’s contract if they were to take the one year option on the deal that expires in 2019, in turn, they activate the £25m buy-out release clause.

To pick up the former Atletico Madrid defender for this amount would be a snip, especially in today’s market according to our punters in the bar. The Belgian is looking to more than double his current £50k a week deal to hit the capped ceiling at Spurs of £110k.

If this were to happen, Pochettino would surely be looking to Daniel Levy and the board to bring in some much-needed reinforcements to Wembley Stadium. With that in mind, our landlord takes a look at two players who should be on Spurs’ radar…

Nabil Fekir

The Frenchman is having an outstanding season with Ligue 1 side Lyon, having bagged himself 14 goals and four assists already this campaign. The attacking midfielder is something that Spurs need if they are to push on in the league, after what has been up to now an awful season compared to recent years.

Although Spurs have Erikson and Alli, Pochettino needs something a little different and Fekir also plays up front, which could provide a much needed back up to star, lone striker Harry Kane.

Salif Sané

The Senegalese centre-back could be a direct replacement for the possible departure of Alderwerield. After having a good season at Hannover 96 who sit in 10th in the Bundesliga, Sane has helped himself to a goal and an assist this season.

Ariely a very good defender, he would provide the Spurs backline with a strong and aggressive approach, however, the 27-year-old would have to curb his temper if he’s to become a regular in Pochettino’s team, so our regulars believe.
