The West Ham supporting locals in the Transfer Tavern finally have a smile on their faces after their beloved Irons finally picked up a win. 

It’s been a miserable few months both on and off the pitch for those in East London as the move to the London Stadium looked having some sour consequences.

Amid their losing run, an exclusive run by Bleacher Report claimed European giants Paris Saint-Germain were casting keen eyes over star turn Dimitri Payet.

The Frenchman is undoubtedly a huge part of the club’s project and one of the most exciting players to watch in the Premier League.

However, after seeing his contract bumped up so much last season just six months into his original deal, the Irons in the Tavern are starting to proclaim NO ONE is bigger than the club.

Clearly, it would take a huge bid in order to tempt the 29-year-old away, though here are THREE options who could replace him.

Mauro Icardi

Obviously, Mauro Icardi is not the same type of player as Dimitri Payet – few are.

Still, West Ham are seemingly hell-bent on landing a marquee name and there’s little doubt the Argentine is one of those.

Amid personal problems with Inter Milan, the Argentine forward was linked with the Hammers earlier this year.

Would certainly hit headlines.

Jonjo Shelvey

Again, the notion of Shelvey acting as a direct replacement for Payet is ridiculous.

However, should the fantastic Frenchman leave for a Champions League giant, Slaven Bilic could feasibly move Manuel Lanzini into the central playmaking berth.

Then, in order to help dictate tempo further back in midfield next to the imperious Kouyate, Shelvey’s masterful passing range would be a useful addition.

Matteo Kovacic

Such is the nature of life as a Premier League club these days, there’s every chance West Ham United could afford to buy a hugely talented midfielder from Real Madrid.

As good as Matteo Kovacic is (and he really is), the Croatian doesn’t look likely to truly impose himself onto first-team proceedings in the Spanish capital.

A supremely gifted box-to-box midfielder, he’d be a wonderful long-term replacement.
