Our Liverpool fans here in the Transfer Tavern are hoping for a long and successful era under current boss Jurgen Klopp. Indeed, this season the German has brought an exciting brand of football to Anfield, ending in a Champions League final appearance.
In search for trophies to compliment the football being played, Klopp is seeking reinforcements within his squad, and recently relegated Stoke City’s Xherden Shaqiri seems to be the £12m target for the German.
Indeed, the former Dortmund boss has blooded some youngsters into the side over his time at the club and our local Liverpool fans in the bar love seeing the youth academy players coming through. Many of the talents have been a major success in recent years and most of them will be hoping to emulate the likes of Steven Gerrard, Michael Owen and Jamie Carragher in their careers for the Reds.
Nevertheless, with the promotion of youth, there is always the flip side, with many of the players getting edged out by quicker fixes for a manager and with that in mind, our landlord has taken a look at TWO young players who should bow out now before it’s too late for their own careers…
OUR VERDICT – Ben Woodburn & Sheyi Ojo
The goal getting left winger could be used to reshape Klopp’s forward line, given the chance, with the 18-year-old helping himself to plenty of assists and goals this season already for the u23’s and shows signs of maturing way past his years.
With the creative play of Coutinho now firmly in the past, Woodburn could have been the youngster to come in and put his fair share of goals into the team alongside the devasting front three.
Alongside the Welshman, winger, Ojo, has found himself at Fulham in the Championship for a third loan spell away from the club. At 20, Sheyi Ojo has spent his entire Liverpool career on loan so far, which doesn’t bode well at all for his future at the club.
Ojo had scored a handful of goals in his Championship games last season, and he can play on either flank. A move away for the England man could take his career on to the next level that he needs to develop. A regular at international youth level, he’s certainly got the talent to make it elsewhere.
