Though the Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern have been in good spirits of late, there’s little doubt Arsene Wenger remains a divisive figure. 

The 66-year-old recently celebrated 20 years in charge of the Gunners and is undoubtedly a legend in north London.

However, should he fail with yet another title tilt, the Frenchman could be under pressure at the Emirates.

With just a year on his deal with the club to go, Le Prof has been linked with
taking the poisoned chalice that is the England job.

So, where would that leave Arsenal?

As lambasted as Wenger can be at times, perhaps rightly so, his impact on the club has been as far-ranging as his old rival Sir Alex Ferguson’s at Manchester United.

Whether you’re a supporter of him or not, there’s simply no denying his departure would leave a gaping hole in the club, one United couldn’t deal with upon the departure of the famous old Scot in 2013.

Who really could replace Wenger?

Well, there’s THREE options.

Thomas Tuchel

Currently picking up where Jurgen Klopp left off at Borussia Dortmund is Thomas Tuchel.

The 43-year-old deploys an attacking and expansive brand of football in the Bundesliga, something that would seem a perfect fit at Arsenal.

They certainly boast the players for Tuchel to flourish.

Eddie Howe

Linked with the post recently, Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe is sure making a name for himself on the South Coast.

Having impressed Jack Wilshere enough to join the Cherries on loan, the 38-year-old looks like a Wenger heir-apparent.

His possession-based game and preference for incisive, dynamic attackers would surely put him in good stead.

Diego Simeone

If Arsenal wish to make a statement signing in the managerial department (as many of their PL rivals have) upon Wenger’s departure – surely Diego Simeone’s name will crop up.

El Cholo recently negotiated the shortening of his contract with Atletico Madrid after a period of huge success in the Spanish capital.

His style of play would be a departure, though perhaps that’s a welcome thing after so many years without a league title.
