There are a few bleary eyes here in the Transfer Tavern this morning amongst our Spurs fans after what was a pretty terrible evening in the history of the club yesterday.
The Lilywhites were in action in the Champions League last night knowing that if they won against Monaco they would be in with a chance of qualifying for the knockout stages of the competition, something they worked hard for last year.
Indeed, even a draw would have given them a shot after they saw Bayer Leverkusen could only muster a point away in Russia against CSKA Moscow.
Instead, though, they absolutely bottled it against the Ligue 1 side.
In what was a pretty toothless display from Spurs they were easily outclassed by their hosts and could have gone behind in the first-half but for Hugo Lloris’ penalty save.
The second half wasn’t much better as they fell behind twice in an astonishing four minutes, summing up their campaign, to see them crash out.
It was a damning performance and many players came in for criticism, with Christian Eriksen just one of those. He came on in the second half tasked with making a difference but had no impact, indicative of his season.
The former Ajax man has been poor all year and this incredible tweet from @Squawka highlights just how ineffectual he’s been:
