Daniel Sturridge is the latest man to be linked with a move to Liverpool, with Kenny Dalglish keen to add to his attacking options before the end of the transfer window.
Should either Andy Carroll or Luis Suarez get injured, then Liverpool’s strikeforce looks fairly underpowered, with Dirk Kuyt tending to take up position on the right wing, and David N’Gog failing to live up to the potential he promised following his move from Paris Saint-Germain.
Sturridge has become quite the hot property since his loan move to Bolton last season, and has been the subject of interest from several Premier League teams this summer. He scored 8 goals in just 12 appearances for Bolton, and showed real signs that he can become the player everyone hoped he would be when he signed from Manchester City. He also seems to have impressed new manager Andre Villas-Boas, performing exceptionally in a series of preseason matches for the Blues.
Whilst it is unlikely Villas-Boas would want to sell the youngster, especially to one of his Premier League rivals, Chelsea already boast an attack of Fernando Torres, Didier Drogba, Nicolas Anelka and Salomon Kalou, and Sturridge’s first-team opportunities may be severely limited at Stamford Bridge this season.
Throw into the mix that Itasportpress are also reporting that Liverpool are willing to offer midfielder Raul Meireles in exchange for Sturridge, and a deal seems more likely. Despite his good performances last season, including a winning goal against the Blues, Meireles is possibly viewed as surplus to requirements at Anfield this season, especially with the arrivals of Charlie Adam, Jordan Henderson and Stewart Downing, and he could be just what Chelsea are looking for in order to bolster a midfield already deprived of Michael Essien.
