Recent reports from Italy claim that Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic could snub north London rivals Arsenal in favour of Tottenham and make himself one of the first major signings of their new project. However, there are serious doubts over his ability to replace current fan favourite Son Heung-Min.
Tuttosport (via Sport Witness) have certainly thrown a proverbial spanner in the works, suggesting that Ivan Perisic preferred a move to Spurs all along, despite reacting positively to rumours about a move to Manchester United and Arsenal (source: Tuttosport via football365).
But would this move really serve to benefit the player?
Yes, there’s no doubt that he’d get minutes under his belt, but with Son already occupying his favoured position on the left-wing there’s scant chance of him securing a starting spot anytime soon. And would the fans even want him to?
He’s clearly shown himself to be a bit of a journeyman with no real sense of the culture of rivalry between the two clubs he’s teased, and that’s hardly the most conducive quality to a successful and prosperous relationship with fans.
Perisic has got the quality to do well in the Premier League as well after succeeding both at club and international level. He’s fairly quick and agile for a larger player, he’s very capable with both feet, and possesses very respectable finishing and creative ability. And, of course, Son would be under a little more pressure than he currently is if the Croatian arrived.
But it’s not as if he’s suffering from a lack of effort.
In fact, Son’s work rate is one of the strongest aspects of his game.
It’s certainly going to be interesting to see how this one unfolds in the future.
