Breaking news is that Manchester United’s Rio Ferdinand has been charged in relation to the ‘choc ice’ incident on Twitter. Rio commended a Tweet sent to him by a follower relating to Chelsea player Ashley Cole.
‘Choc ice’ meaning black on the outside, white on the inside’, as Cole had testified for John Terry in the race hate case involving Ferdinand’s brother, Anton.
The FA has today charged Manchester United’s Rio Ferdinand with improper conduct in relation to comments posted on Twitter.
The allegation is that the player acted in a way which was improper and/or bought the game into disrepute by making comments which included a reference to ethnic origin and/or colour and/or race.
Ferdinand has until 4pm on 2 August 2012 to respond to the charge.
Back in May Sir Alex told the Telegraph:
“I don’t understand it, to be honest with you. I don’t have the time to do it. There are a million things you can do with your life other than that. Go to a library and read a book.
I’m serious. What a waste of time.
But they seem to have a certain momentum at the moment. Everyone seems to want to do it.
I don’t understand it but it is something that we, as a club, are looking at because there can be issues attached to it and we don’t want that.”
Almost every week one footballer or another proves that they are incapable of engaging their brain before Tweeting.
Could this spell the end of Ferdinand’s Tweeting? Should it? @rioferdy5 has over 3million followers. Ferdinand has made nearly 10,000 Tweets. Would his ego survive having his toy taken away from him?
